L’AUTRE CÔTÉ EST TOUT PRÈS: Villa Bernasconi. Lancy, Switzerland, 2023

An exhibition held in a beautiful 18th century building. The curators, Marie Roduit and Nicole Kunz, came to see me in Belgium, and we had a long and beautiful discussion about art, children’s books, philosophy, and Dante. What is particularly interesting about Villa Bernasconi is that they have contemporary art exhibitions as well as illustration exhibitions.

I was able to show the both sides of my work: art and illustration. And for the exhibition, we also made a big fanzine (there are still copies available to buy).

In the villa there are three floors, and a big underground room, where I made a big mural painting in yellow luminance paint. In this space, we played an audio piece that I wrote and recorded with Sam McCullen and sound designer James McCullen.

On the final day of the exhibition, I did a drawing performance with three wonderful Swiss artists: Lika Nüssli, Jonanna Schaible and Fred Fivaz.

EN FLUO: Les Chiroux, Liege, Belgium, 2022

In recent years, I have used luminance colour in my books. Luminance is an interesting one: it has a different kind of meaning, and a strong energy. So when I was invited by the wonderful team at Chiroux in Liège (a place which works with all the librarians in and around Liege) and my dear friend Brigitte Van den Bossche at ATI, we came up with the idea of the exhibition being FLUO (mainly orange like in my book I Want a Dog – Any Dog.

I mainly worked with the curator Gilles Dewalque, who was also in charge of making the wooden structures. It was a very playful space (but not a representation of what we think is playful, I hope, away from cliché).

We also made a small activity book for the exhibition: Drawing with Kitty Crowther PRINCE.

The exhibition is currently travelling around Belgium.

Here is a collection of photos from different exhibitions I’ve had over the years. Not all of them are shown here, but you can find them all listed on the about page.
