Butterfly Lithographs & monotypes

Following on from the butterfly oil paintings I made at a residency in Marseille, invited by Fotokino in 2023, I made a series of butterfly monotypes at a wonderful printing studio called Azulil, with Mathilde Busch.

We imagined a series of prints which Fotokino could sell in their website shop (there are still some available to buy). Mathilde advised me to do these prints as lithographs and add the colours with a monotype technique. I loved the idea of keeping the previous monotype colours for the next prints, keeping the ghost of the previous image each time – so I didn’t clean the plexiglass and just added fresh ink on top. I tried to keep it simple with a beautiful emerald green ink.
